Sunday Scraps...

I helped coordinate a scrapbook worksession at the school I work at for staff members this past Sunday.  I called the event Sunday Scraps, I thought that was cute.  The school cafeteria tables worked really well because they allowed you to spread out and have a lot of work space.  The cafeteria also had good lighting.  We had over 10 people show up.  We even gave out door prizes.

I actually accomplished a lot at the work session. I worked on a wordbook that spelled out ALOHA.  I chose ALOHA because I wanted to create an album for my trip to Hawaii in 2003.  I didn't realize so many years have past since my last trip to Hawaii.

I still have to put pictures on the back page.  I like the paper I chose for the back page because the print reminded me of the tattoo art of the Tongan people.

I now feel confident to take on another wordbook project.  My next one is an album that spells out FAITH.

Venice, Italy Scrapbook...

As discussed in the previous blog here are a few pictures of pages that I have created for my 8x8 Venice, Italy Scrapbook.  I started off with a small scrapbook size becuase I was scared I wouldn't be able to fill up a large page.

Page one introducing travel journal.  Used chipboard letters and numbers.
Throughout this scrapbook I used different types of stickers.

Post card paper with pictures of Venice water buses.
I like how my pictures blend into the paper.
Used post card paper as the trim.  Included artificat bus/water bus ticket with picture from waterbus stop.
Used frame cut out around black and white gondala picture
and put canal picture ontop of paper that looked like water.

In the beginning...

Scrapbooking has me reflecting on the fact that all my life I have been interested in art.  Whether it was drawing, painting, teaching dance or writing poetry some form of artistic expression has been a part of my life.
The first picture is a water color painting I did using a photograph of me.  I used the same photograph for the self portrait below with conte' crayons as the medium used.  The self portrait below won at the Scholastic Art Competition when I was in high school and also won a Hallmark Gold Key Nomination. I looked really goofy in high school.  LOL.  At the bottom of the post I have a portrait I did for a friend of mine while in college using conte' crayons and an acrylic painting of a flower I did for my bedroom two years ago.

Right now scrapbooking is the visual medium I am using.  I am posting pictures that pay homage to a few of my past creations.  My next post today is going to be pictures from my Venice Italy Scrapbook that I am currently working on.
